I need a calculator to count the zeros. 60,000 crores is what I heard is the money involved in the 2G Spectrum scandal involving India's Telecom Minister Mr.A.Raja !

Headlines Today TV has been playing the telephone conversation Mr.Raja had with Ms. Radia, a power broker lobbyist..and all I could do was to not blink.  Wow...60,000 crores? 

These conversations are supposed to have been taped by the Income Tax Dept of India in 2008.  Why didn't they release it all these days?   How did the Govt. allow these things to go on.  Baffles me !

But then, knowing it's India...all I could do was to drink some cold water ! 

It's shameful to note that some of the leading Newspapers and magazines from Tamil Nadu, never bothered to report about this !!    I understand....It's Democracy at Peak in Tamilnadu.

Hat's off to you Headlines Today for releasing these tapes.

CHENNAI: The government has declared a general holiday on Friday under the Negotiable Instruments Act for all educational institutions, offices of the State government, public sector undertakings and government-controlled bodies as a mark of respect to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who was killed in a helicopter crash near Kurnool. The Madras High Court will remain closed. Instead, December 19 (Saturday) will be a working day. Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi appealed to commercial establishments and private industrial units to declare a holiday.

Is this really required ? Everyone is sad about what happened and that's about it. Life has to go on isn't it ? Why declare a holiday to pay respects ?

Why is the Chief Minister requesting commercial establishments and Industrial units to close? This is crazy.

During bad economic times, productivity has to increase and holidays have to be minimized if possible !! ( Already the list of holidays is big IMHO in India ).

Amidst all this drama everyone forgot the PILOT and the other people who died along with Mr.YSR.

May all the departed souls rest in peace !

Hanuman - Chairman ?

If you are going to study at Sardar Bhagat Singh College of Technology and Management, Lucknow, India you are lucky !!

Hanuman, the popular god known for his strength and valor, has been named official chairman of the recently opened Sardar Bhagat Singh College of Technology and Management in northern India, a school official said Saturday.

The position comes with an incense-filled office, a desk and a laptop computer. Four chairs will be placed facing the empty seat reserved for the chairman and all visitors must enter the office barefoot, said Vivek Kangdi, the school's vice chairman.

Numerology

A friend of mine recently changed his name from 'JAYARAMAN' to 'JEYARAMAN'. I asked him why ? He said someone advised him to change it based on Numerology.

I being me....asked him ...Did you change it in your Mother Tongue Tamil also ? He said ...No ! It is still ஜெயராமன்.

I laughed and...he got the point!

My question for all the people who've changed their names in English like S.Ve.Shekar etc.

All of you have the same names in Tamil isn't it ?

And your mother tongue is Tamil.

Tell me how the name change in English...helps you ?

Where else would these things happen in India ?

Only in Tamil Nadu, where it is ok for heroines to dance semi-nude in movies where their grandfather in the name of Hero explores her beauty !

India is considered the Biggest Democracy on Earth ( someone once told me we are so big that if we all go to Pakistan and piss, Pakistan will drown ) where people don't even have the freedom of expression !

So what if Namitha / Shreya or anyone wears what they want to wear in public. If someone doesn't want to see them , let them close their eyes ! Did the voters elect these politicians to argue about these silly things in the assembly ?

Why don't these politicians and the public who support all this drama protest when the same women act semi-nude in movies? A lot of movies with U certificate has these same women dressed the same ways ? Does any politician or public care ! Why now?

I am ashamed that the elected officials waste their time on 'Moral Policing' rather than doing something constructive for the people !

It might sound unbelievable but it is true. The valuable time of Tamil Nadu assembly was spent to discuss on what the likes of Shriya and Namitha should or should not wear in public places. On Monday (Feb 28), Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), a partner of the ruling alliance, launched an attack against the way the actresses dress in public places and on television.

I am glad that Jo has also written about it today.

Hindu Munnani vs Khushboo

Read in 'IndiaGlitz' that Khushboo is in trouble again. Mr.Gurumoorthy a Hindu Munnani activist has lodged a complaint before a civil court alleging that Khushboo was seen sitting with her chappals in front of idols of goddesses Lakshmi, Saraswathy and Parvathy, during Pooja for the 'muhurat' at Chennai on 22 November.

My question to Mr.Gurumoorthy:

Don't we have 1,000,000,000,000,000 other issues that the Hindu Munnani can fight for? Can you please work on those rather than worrying about 'Chappals' ?

Do you remove your chappals or your shoes in a MTC bus just because there is a photo of a God/Goddess in the front near the driver?

IMHO - The Goddesses will be happy if people are pure at heart!
They won't bother about the chappals.

I couldn't control my laughter when I read this in THE HINDU today.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Niranjan Shah said in a press release that medium pacers R. P. Singh and S. Sreesanth were ruled out of the first Test due to injuries. He also said, “the selectors have replaced them with Munaf Patel.”

How can Munal Patel replace Sreesanth and R.P. Singh ? I am clueless ! Can someone help me please? Maybe it's the midlife crisis.

BANGALORE: The former Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa on Monday charged the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and his sons with resorting to “black magic” to finish him off. “I am facing a threat to my life. I know the places where they did pujas under black magic. I will write to the Home Department on Tuesday complaining against the black magic of Mr. Gowda and his sons. They will be responsible if anything happens to my life,” he said.


Mr. Yeddyurappa - Please remember that Bangalore became the Silicon Valley of India thanks to the brains and not due to Black Magic and all such nonsense !

If black magic works, Can Mr.Deve Gowda eliminate poverty in India? Can he stop Global Warming ? Can he atleast stay awake in public meetings ?

BCCI / Selectors - Jokers

S.Badrinath has been left out from the Indian team announced today. This is for the first two games against Pakistan. And just yesterday he scored 82 runs for India Reds in the Challenger series.

My question to the Selection committee ( a** holes) and the BCCI ( Jokers)

What is the justification for not including Badri ?

Why was he included in the team a few weeks back against Australia? ( He didn't play though)

What happened between then and now that resulted in him being dropped?

PS - For those of you who don't know, here are a few facts.

Murali Karthik was dropped right after the game in Aus. ( a few years back )when he got the Man of the Match. Somehow ( Magic ) he got a call a few weeks back, and did well to be back in the Team.

Parthiv Patel ( he is knocking at the doors ), came to Indian cricket without playing Ranji Trophy ! ( His family I heard are diamond merchants in Gujarat )

Vengsarkar - during his days was not one of the agile players. Yet, he complains about the players not being agile ! Case in point - VVS !

A Changing India

Most of my friends and family in India who either visit the USA or who live there offer a lot of advice and opinions ( mostly unsolicited ) about how America is bad to raise children, the education system, culture etc.

Though I keep both my ears open so as to let such comments pass out from one ear to another and out, I find it amazing that they talk like this, when Indian culture, Education, Family ties etc. are slowly changing.

Here is report on rising teenage pregnancies.

Gynaecologist Varsha Parekh from Chembur feels it is the westernised concepts of living-in that attracts the youth, “It is the ‘in’ thing to be outgoing. There’s no way to stop students from indulging in sex. I educate the youth about contraceptives instead.”

These are common in the City of Chennai. I think the Government feels that it is the responsibility of all citizens to make sure they don't step into man-holes.

One of my friends' sister fell into a man-hole and died a few years back during the monsoons. Her body was recovered a few days later in the Bay of Bengal, near Marina Beach.

TN Govt - A role model ?

The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday announced that it will pass an ordinance for reservation for minorities in the state.

The ordinance will come into effect from September 15, the 99th birth anniversary of DMK founder and former Tamil Nadu chief minister C N Annadurai.

The ordinance provides for exclusive reservation of 3.5 per cent each for Muslims and Christians in educational institutions and employment, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said in a statement.

Gammon India vs Govt. of AP/India

Hyderabad, Sept. 10: Police filed a case of negligence against Gammon India Ltd, on the basis of a complaint given by G. Srinivas, 38, a taxi driver injured in the mishap. Srinivas, who suffered injuries on his arms and legs, sought action against the management and officials of Gammon India Ltd.

My blood boils when I read this story. Come on...the Government must file a criminal case against Gammon India, and close the company for the shabby construction they did...not an individual. But I've been reading about finger pointing by the Govt. and Gammon India.

Do we need to guess about what would have happened during the construction ?

ECR - East Coast Road.
The most dangerous road in and around Chennai.


People go crazy on this two lane road ( for most part ). Nobody bothers about how dangerous it could be during an accident. During my recent trip to Chennai, I had to go on this road once and I got really scared.

People in India can't drive without the headlights on HI-BEAM, even if they were to drive on a well-lit road. And nobody bothers about it.

Imagine a night drive on the ECR when everyone drives with the HI-BEAM on! What a nightmare.

If you meet with an accident on the ECR, God bless you. We all know about the pathetic emergency services in and around Chennai.

One of the better bloggers in Chennai once lamented about a situation where a person met with an accident right outside MALAR HOSPITALS and that he passed away because nobody came forward to take him to ER.
