Taking a short break

Too many things happening in my life !

Mostly good but a lot of stress.

I am taking a short break.

I promise you I'll be back soon.

The Power of Touch

It happened last week at my office. I was making a cup of coffee when the security staff walked in. He didn't notice me and was about to collide with me, when I put my hand out to stop him.

He stopped and said 'Thanks for touching me!’ I didn't know what to say and he went on to say "It's been a long time since someone touched me'.

I did not know if he was offended and I apologized. He said that he was not offended. I could see tears in his eyes.

These days, at least in the Western societies, touching and hugging people outside the family is not appreciated and even worse if the parties involved are of the same sex.

Now, I remember my younger days....why?.. even now when I go home, I walk with my friends holding hands or putting my arms around the shoulders! Never felt bad about doing it.

Not here where I live. 'While in Rome - be a Roman'.

Brain Power

Imagine any moment in your life that you cherish.

Now, close your eyes and go down deeper into it and enjoy every moment of it. Can you see the different scenes, colors, smells etc? As you drill down deeper into that moment, you'll drive yourself into various occurrences inside that cherished moment in your life.

That is the power of brain. It’s amazing how our brain can compartmentalize the various dimensions of such events. Some not-so important events might not get recorded so clearly.

Isn't it important that we take care of our brain just like how we take care of our body? Meditation and other activities that increase brain power have been proven to help the brain.

I got initiated in Transcendental meditation (TM) a long time back while I was in India. Pretty inexpensive out there. It can do wonders to relax the mind. Other forms of meditation will help as well.

So, please do yourself a big favor and start to nourish your brain so that it will help you cherish your important moments in life.

மனைவியை இழந்த கணவன்

ஆண் ஆதிக்கம், பெண் உரிமை எல்லாவற்றையும் மறந்துவிட்டு கொஞ்சம் யோசித்தால் - பொதுவாக உலகத்தில் தந்தையை விட தாய்க்கு தான் புகழ் அதிகம்.

உண்மையா இல்லையா? அந்த பாதிப்பு தான் இந்த படைப்பு. இந்த மாதிரி எழுதி எனக்கு பழக்கம் இல்லை. ஆதனால் தவறு இருந்தால் மன்னிக்கவும்!

Taking a Sick Day off

GMO and your health

Did you know that scientists have genetically modified tomatoes so that they can grow even in cold climates.

Scientists have created a frost-resistant tomato plant by adding an antifreeze gene from a cold-water fish to it. The antifreeze gene comes from the cold-water flounder, a fish that can survive in very cold conditions.

These days, I am reading about Genetically Modified Potatoes ( with low - carb), corn, soybeans and what not.

As far as the Statistics goes US has the largest share in producing / consuming GMO's. India, didn't show up in the list though India has its own set of problems ( I read that the pesticide DDT, though banned several years back is still used in India).

Monsanto chemicals, a leading GM seed supplier was shown the door by the Indian Government which I felt very happy about. It would have had a bad impact on our eco-systems.

Nobody would know the impact to our health in the long run by consuming these GMO's, eventhough claims have been made by the PRO-GMO groups about the advantages of using GMO's and their negative effects on the human body.

As for me, I try to be organic as much as possible. By being organic,we can save several forms of life, save our own life by not consuming pesticides and also help mother nature.

Update on - Weird Experiences in life

I have a feeling that this has stirred the passion among a lot of you. Just like many of you, I have a lot of respect for Paramacharya. I think the use of the word 'God-men' as a start of the post started a debate. I apologize for the confusion caused.

The thought I had, was to find out the weird experiences if any, among the readers of this blog.

Update on - Manmadhan Poem

I wrote this poem when I saw how the women in the subcontinent adapted faster than men to western style of dressing.

Weird experiences in life

I don't believe in God Men, God women and other superstitions. I believe in God.

Having said that, I would like to narrate a weird experience I had several years back.

It happened at Kanchi Mutt on a Vijayadasami day in the early 90's when the older Sankaracharya was still alive.

I was there with a couple of my friends. Had just returned from short trip to US and had a VIVITAR camera with me. When I reached the Mutt I noticed that my 36 exposure film had only 16 left. I thought that I should not waste anything more.

Waited for the acharya to arrive. Finally he came and I clicked around 5 photos before the Mutt authorities stopped photographers. They said that the acharya might go inside if we continued, since he had just recovered from a cataract surgery. All of us stopped.

I went back to Madras and developed the film. To my surprise, all the photos before and after the Mutt incident came out good. The 5 photos of the Acharya were a Wash out !

I was surprised and still am. Could it be a camera malfunction. I don't know.

Cherries, Kiwi-Fruit, Strawberries, Grapes

I went out with my kids to pick cherries today. The entry fee was 8$ per person. The cherries weren't sprayed. We could eat whatever we wanted while inside. We loved it. Very sweet indeed. On the way back we stopped and took some pictures of a winery, Kiwi Garden and a Strawberry garden.

All these within 10 minutes from my apartment.! Nature at its best.!

Turkey + Peacock = Turcock

My daughter Adhithi took this picture while she was playing outside our apartments yesterday.

We have a flock of Turkeys that live in the hills nearby. A group of Peacocks live in an abandoned house nearby. Looks like nature played the magic here.!

I've not seen a bird like this before. Have you?

The River Cooum which flows thru Chennai, India is now like a sewerage. It stinks and the water is black. Too many slums are around this river.

During the British days, this river was clean and even ferries operated on it, carrying rice and other essential commodities to the people of Madras.

I've written as though this river is talking. Miss.Cooum laments that she was well taken care of by the Englishmen and that she stinks now having married the Tamils.!

Just an imagination.!!
