Things I don't believe in : Astrology, palmistry, Numerology, Vaastu Shasta, Superstitions.
Things I do believe in: God, hard work.
Once you believe in God..How can you believe the rest? Isn't it an oxymoron.
On Numerology: I find it ridiculous to see names like Rahjan (for Rajan), Raaman for Raman, etc..etc. all in the name of Numerology. All of a sudden my friend krishnan became krishnane...but he is still the same old stupid guy..!! ( krishna munchukoe pa..!)
We see more and more of these things these days. This says two things: Either the old generation were fools or the new generation are supersmart, by just changing their names to achieve something.!
I think it doesn't make a difference if your name is spelled Rajhan or Rajan.! ( only adds confusion).
You achievement or successes in life depends on God and your hard work.
On Horoscopes: Just after we got married, my wife and I took our horoscopes to one of the best astrologers in Madras. His prediction that we'll have 2 sons..was 100% wrong. We have 2 beautiful daughters.
On Vastu Shastra: Today almost all the builders in Madras follow Vaastu and make a ton of money advertising it. There are specialists in Vaastu..who'll come home and tell you that your bedroom stinks because you have an attached bathroom.! Again, we didn't have all this until a few years back.! Did we all end up having problems! in our homes or life living in such homes?
On Superstitions: This is a great topic debated everywhere. In one sentence - Superstitions were created by a bunch of idiots who didn't have anything worthwile to do in their life.!
On Palmistry: Falls under the Horoscope category...Just lines in your hands...They can reveal nothing other than...telling you if you washed your hands this morning.!
I feel, its High time People from all over the world come out all these spells that are cast around them.
IMHO, forget everything else. Work hard and leave the rest to God.

Excellent points. Until people realize the fruits of their hard labor, such whimsical indulgences will continue to flourish.
And trust me, you don't need numerology to screw up the names. Try French-ifying names as they are prone to do in Pondicherry, and you will have a Kirouchenan for Krishnan and Cannane for Kannan.
well said. I too believe in only God and hard work.
Personally I don't believe astrologers than astrology.
Some try their hand in election results to gain recognition and to become more popular among people.
I see articles on someone correctly predicting Tsunami before it struck. What prevented them from saying it to the media before it struck?
I think they can replace people doing weather forecast. Atleast we can be sure of better forecast in India.
Daph, I had a French teacher in PUC. His name was abi-bur-regumane?
Can you guess his name?
Habib-ur-rahman? Thanks for stopping by.
Chakra, Did you read my comments about your Gajendra Post?
Me - You nailed the coffin. Where did these astrologers go when Tsunami hit? Why couldn't they predict it? Did you read about Pres.Bush's re-election predictions. Same there too...predictins said 'John Kerry' would win.!!
Narayanan, I am reading this post only now but surprised to find that you have left a msg for me in the comments. yes... I did read your comment on Gajendra.. :)
On numerology, if Krishnan (whoever that is) objects, u may use my name - Chakkarapani - note the double k. I am the same stupid me! ;)
Chakra,
Chakra,
I am sorry I posted a wrong comment.

Your name never came to my mind when I wrote about all this.
Anyways, there is the other side of the coin as well...Why not tell us why you changed your name ( if you did) .!
Jagan,
Thanks for your comments. It made my day, I am laughing!
Can you tell me where you read this?
"Nadakkum enbar Nadakkadhu...Nadakkadenbar..Nadandhubidumm! Very true with all these crooks.!!
thalaivaa... naan enga "k" add pannen.. my grandpa was an expert in these stuff.. he changed it that way when they put me in the school.
perhaps, i wd hav been more stupid without that extra 'k'.
Well analysed.I too believe that more than anything else God is one force who frames every second of our lives. However, certain amount of reasonable belief on the above menioned topics cannot be ignored. Superstitions definitely fall in that category.
Dear Narayanan Venkitu:As stated by
Chakkarapani sampath, many have their names not by their chice but christened by elders.Again where was English spelling to be corrected hundreds of years ago though Numerology was there even before Cheiro. Most of us bear a name which is Indian in its phonetics sankritised,Tamilised or persianised. Why then fret and fume?
