One of my recent purchases is a Sony PS2 ( Playstation 2). Paid around 200 US Dollars. This is for my older daughter.
My younger one wants a digital camera ! A few months back we got her a set of musical instruments ( which is in the garage now) from the Discovery Channel store.
I have to agree that this could be blamed on us, the parents who pamper ( is that the right word) their kids.
But the peer pressue ( he has a Nintendo, she has a keyboard..so please...me too) also plays a roll.
Another attitude is, Let my kids enjoy....when I was a kid..I didn't get to play with these wonderful toys.
I feel that the kids are losing the value of money.
Think about it, in the 70's and 80's what kinds of toys did we get as presents? What kinds of toys did we play with?
Didn't we grow up happily playing in the garden, running around playing 'I spy'. How much TV ( if at all) did we watch? How many movies did we go to? ( Now at any time atleast 1 or 2 kids movies are playing ).
What is going to happen to these kids who grow up in this world of abundance.? I am not sure ...only time will tell.

Motivate them to earn these things like setting them an acheivable target in studies or extra-curricular activities of their interest.
They will acheive it and earn the stuff. This will make them feel good about you and themselves.
Btw thanks for dropping by my blogs.
When reading this blog, I was thinking of what our parents would have thought when we were kids :))
dear Venkitu Narayanan: I read with interest all Ur 3 blogs.U seem to be in the transition stage of maturing as a wise guy and yet ware of earthly things and duties.
1)U R right that tho' it is pampering there is an immense pleaure indescribable.I tis said "a toy in kid's hands brings joy to the society".Same thing with my grandson at Indianapolis.
As 'Me' said U can, as I did, slowly draw her to card tricks, chess, carroms and even "paramapadha Sobana Padm" game. All that we are to do is to spend more time with them than think of our socialising.
2)naming. S I saw Ur comment.I totally agree with U.But in our country as well as in some Asian countries the native place( OrTharavadu-family title)an honor title a religious title etc are used to trace the lineage unlike the West. The problem is "ulta"
in records when U reach the west.
3)population.What a funny paradox!
"Population Explosion and politician'sProliferation"-Irony
me- That is exactly what we are trying to do. Thanks for your comments.
PVS - I agree...I am not sure...!
Kichami Sir - Thanks for stopping by and commenting. My kids like 'Paramadha padha sobanam'..but not chess. Card tricks?? I have to learn myself.
