India's Population

India's current population is well over 1 billion.

I read an interesting column in
The Week Magazine
about the recent changes to the Two-child Norm.

Here are some statistics about our leaders:

Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav (Nine children)

Ex-Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao (Nine)
Ex-Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda (Seven)
Ex-health minister B. Shankaranand (Eight)

That's right...if not the population would be close to 2B now!

This reminds me of a recent talk that I had with a colleague who had come from China to our location for some general training. I was talking about general stuff with him, when he told me that he was the father and the brother to his son. I didnt quite understand it immediately but a minute later when I realized it, it was quite profound. I have read about the one child limit earlier too, but never could imagine the depth of it, until now.

Yeah, one child limit certainly has some impact on the kids. Lack of siblings..causes psychological problems, I've read.
