I read somewhere to 'Think Different'. I did that and see what happened. Read below.
==========================================================
This Report bothers me a lot:
In India, where millions of couples still hanker for a male child, the overall sex ratio is 927 females to 1,000 males. It has one of the lowest female-to-male ratios in the world.
Ironically this is happening in a country where 'Ramayana' is considered sacred and the Kids are advised to grow up as 'Ramas' and 'Sitas'.
Yeah, Ramayana preaches MONOGAMY. Rama is considered sacred for living a 'EK PATHNI VIRATHAN' which in English roughly means 'A man with one wife'.
Same with Sita. Inspite of promise of wealth, happiness etc. she chose not to marry Ravana the king of Sri Lanka. Ramayana says she remained devoted to Rama and only Rama.
Now, after reading this report I am worried that this ( If not now) is going to affect relationships and the culture of India.
Wonder how..? Just look at the numbers and the definitions.
'EK PATHNI' means 1 woman for 1 man. Mathematically the ratio should be 1:1. Now look at the numbers in the report . It says the ratio is 927 for 1000. It is 0.927 : 1 isn't it. So pretty soon Monogamy, is going to go away in India !
Now extend it further. 73 Men out of 1000 are going to end up without a female partner. What are they going to do? Turn to Gays ? Yes..the Gay population in India is going to increase.
Extending it further 927 girls get to choose from 1000 men. Simple demand supply ratio. Women will have the opportunity to have multiple partners.
This is a clear example of changing times and India getting Westernized.
Have a Nice day.!

Thanks for blogrolling me.
Very true....
Gals will have more than one option....
I Have experienced it quite a while, there will be more than one guy who would have proposed to the same gal i have proposed, at any given point of time....me being the second option always :)
what a defintion for westernization...aaaah u r quite a genious.
Freeyavedu,
Yeah, on a serious note it does look disturbing. I hope you guys will change the trend.!
Good Luck.
Kay,
Yar andha ponnu. Was it the one you put in your blog.
Thanks for the 'Genius Part'.!!
Can you please tell that to my wife! ....She thinks I am an idiot.!
u r pretty close in guessing the gal :)
Asuku busku itha vanthu nan solla maatene...:)
Women will have the opportunity to have multiple partners.
Women having multiple partners is not a western idea indeed. In Mahabharatha, the famous epic, Draupathy had 5 legal husbands.

Thanks for stopping by.
Interesting comment on Draupadi.
By the way..any idea what the ratio was during Mahabharatha days.
On an optimistic note, the ratio has "improved" to 0.933:1.000 according to the official 2001 Census of India.
Plus, I cannot help but think, isn't the proclamation "pretty soon monogamy is going to go away in India" a veiled insult to the intelligence of our people? I mean, do you REALLY believe that just because of the numbers, people are going to indulge in multiple partners? Lets give ourselves some credit here and not drive ourselves into the ground.
Folks, something wrong with the comments, I didn't receive any emails..as I would normally do..!!
I saw these comments after lunch here in California.
Thanks all. I'll reply this evening.
One quick note for DAPH.
The comparisons to Ramayana / Monogamy..etc...were on the lighter side..!! Not serious.!!!
Aahraya koodadhuppa ....Anubavikkanum..!!!
Aha! with the perfect 20/20 clarity of hindsight, I see the lighter side.
I jumped the gun, and for that I apologize...
Daph, No problems.
Pretty nice extrapolations! Hope it doesnt get to that extent. :-)
TG - Thank you....It was all fun.!!!..But the reality sucks..!!
Hope our people change..!!!
Thanks for including gays in your topic, something that many indian men are so afraid to discuss openly.
As an Indian gay man myself, i can vouch that men dont "turn-gay" because they do'nt get females! Most of the gay men come to realise about their orientation during pre-teen years itself.
India is definitely going to see an "increase" in gay population. The population is the same but gay people are becoming more and more visible. They are realising that there are other alternatives than depression, suicide, fake-therapy or fake-marriage.
