It happened at the Livermore Temple the other day. I saw a lady doing reverse rounds around the Planet gods. Umm...I thought.

If God were to exist and bless you... then IMHO:
a) Praying should be enough.
b) Ok...Going to temple should be enough.
c) Ok...Praying at the temple should be enough.
d) Ok...going around the Gods for one round should be enough.
e) Ok...11 Rounds to Hanuman and 9 rounds to the Planet gods ( 1 per head I think) should be enough.
Why...Reverse rounds? Somebody explain please...I won't mind doing reverse rounds Upside down.

I've seen this quite a few times at my neighborhood temple in Nanganallur. When I asked my parents about that..they said it was as part of some offering.
Apparently for redemption from certain hardships, they were suggested to do the "apradakshinam" as opposed to the usual clock-wise "pradakshinam". And almost always, this counter-clockwise rounding was dedicated to the Nava Grahas.

Venkat - I think a lot of these prevail outside Tamil Nadu as well.! Isn't it.
Infact I had a small argument about telling your Name, Nakshitiram etc. for an archanai. Doesn't God know who you are?
Or..Shouldn't God know who if you are..If not..we should fire him.!!
Name/Nakshatram/Gotram for archanai is not to inform the Gods. It is for the sake of the human who is doing the archanai on your behalf. Afterall, the archanai is a fellow human beseeching God to bestow goodwill upon the person for whom this archanai is being performed in the first place.
but yeah, if God doesn't know who we are we should "fire" him :-)
i dont know the reason, but i used to do it everytime i go around planet gods. the count is like this 7 clockwise and 2 anti-clockwise.
