I feel a little sad that I didn't see this in any of the blogs that I read. I appreciate the Indian Government for doing this. I hope this scheme gets implemented well enough to see good results.

good scheme but sad part is that it came out after i finished studying..
Looks like we are moving a step ahead and pray that it succeeds...

Don't worry Sukku. It will help your kids.!!
Appears like a good scheme, Narayanan. However, good intentions and practical implementation is not exactly the strong points of our government. Moreover, I think the government has stolen the idea from a post I read recently in India Today. An indian gentlemen earlier settled in the U.S has come back and is encouraging girls from the lowest strata by giving them Rs 10 each day for classes attended. Besides this, they are taught practical, job-oriented education...something that will help them find their feet later in life. Aren't you..er, we glad that such people exist amongst us? Cheeers from Delhi....;)
I read about this and its a great decision from the govt side.
@Ravi -- Very nice to hear about that gentleman.
a very good decision. hope the much needed avail it.
The govt is trying to solve two problems here. One is preventing female infanticide and the other is ensuring family planning through incentives.
I think the other serious issues that need to be considered by the govt are "prohibition of Dowry " by all communities and " Equal share of wealth" for women in family settlements. I dream of that day when India stands tall among the nations with both economic and social prosperity !
Haven't heard of this program.. Sounds good.. I hope its implemented well too..
There are too many laws and regulations in India already.... what is required is the uniform & fair implementation..
Yes is a good scheme of Manmohan Singh Government.
i did not even know abt this scheme sir!glad that i found it out through ur very informative post.
inda spamerslan irukangele..sama vetti pasange..ino konjum nalil word verificationayum meriduvange :(
i am not very enthu abt the single child family scheme...there are very few ppl who will stop with a single child esp if she is a girl...i dont think free education is an incentive....me thinks they shud bring this abt irrespective of the number of kids just as long as it is just one female child in the family :) but this is a good start...still a loooooooong way to go!
It is definitely a good step.. But I am little bit pessimistic about those people who may have to implement this. Let us hope for the best...
didnt know abt this...thnx for the info...definitely a good beginning...let us hope such good schemes last long and implemented well..
Venkittu sir, it wont help sukhanya's kids !! it will help only sukhanya's KID !! :)
This is a good move, no matter what after-effects it has!!
Good step!. Hope it grows into free education for everyone.
@Siddarth: "Spammers" are unfortunately not people. they are just programs which hunt blogs with new posts. thas all.
seems like a good scheme. hope it makes life better for the girls who need it most
happy to know about this:-)
good post narayan:-)
Yeah.. I saw that in rediff a few days ago. sorry, should have posted on that. Hope the parents in villages, now atleast, send their girls to school, without worrying about "what would happen if she is over-educated" or "she has to help us in the field or some factory" or some such thing.
Hi
this is good....atlast lower and middle class girls can go to school without worrying about anything
Prakash
A good initiative Naryanan Sir. But I think we all should also take responsibility and do something about it.
Most of us are in very good financial condition. We can bring in a change if we want. We can all support children in this good cause.
I am not preaching, I have put it in practice - I have three children taken care through Udavum Karangal and 24 others from CRY. I think Naryanan Sir, if we all do our bit, it will be really great.
And it is not expensive at all, for all that matters, you will not feel it even a bit, but it will create wonders for those children.
Really good scheme...Two things if properly implemented...
1. Contains Population
2. Uplifts women in India
A very excellent intension. However not sure how it can/will be implemented. Further dont see the point of middle-class/ rich/urban people been extended into this scheme. Nice if they would implement this vigorously in the rural parts.

Good Link Narayanan. sounds like a very innovative scheme. Tying it to a direct financial incentive will hopefully offset the bias that some of our poorer folks have.
Its sad that even to this day, some so called educated and progressive people seem to prefer sons over daughters.
Folks,
Thanks for all your comments. Like a lot of you mentioned, implementation is the key here.
Let's wait and watch.
Thanks for the link. Its really a positive note and glad to see this initiative. Yes like everyone else, implementation has to wait for us to know ... Am blogrolling u sir.
