Are there people living out there who might be descendants of Lord Rama the famous Hindu God, or his family ?
The story of Ramayana traditionally ends after Lord Rama returns to Ayodhya with Sita and becomes the king again.
Does anyone know what happened after that? One of my friends from Taiwan showed me some Chinese websites which talk about Lord Rama becoming a tyrant in his later days.

It's quite difficult to track down the descendents of Rama especially with the growing population. Probably , that's why it's said that god is within all of us.

Thennavan,
Thank you. Raman / Ravanan..no kavalaidhan ok...but what if you have Rama's DNA? Just kidding.
Adaengappa - Great link, ...but one question...why did they come to Koyampedu? ( By the way, i've been to the temple on a few occasions for Pradhosham ). I look forward to reading your Mom's thoughts.
Venkat - Good link. Thank you
Thats interesting Narayanan, I know of many people who have never believed in the entire saga of Ramayana and Mahabharata. Some people think its a myth or a legend which is manipulated by pundits so as to exploit ignorant people. I do not know whether Ram became a tyrant in his later years but yes, many people believe that he could have become one as he sent his own wife to an exile.

Interesting topic. Mythology and reality have a weird way of triggering interesting myths. Some true, some false. The pendulum keeps swinging on that one. But I am not going to make any statements on this since I believe in God yet question most stories that revolve around him.
The works of Kalidasa or Bhavabuti should throw more light on Rama's later years. I have added the english translations to my library queue. will let you know once I read them.
IMO Rama giving death sentence to Lakshmana actually portrays him as a just ruler and not a tyrant.

Amrita, I feel that Ramayana might not be a story after all, though there are a few questions. Rama suspecting Sita and her performing Sati etc...! don't go well for Rama...Though some would argue he is an example for mankind.!
Reflex,
Good points. How did L_K come to Koyambedu and why? I know Nadhi Moolam Rishi Moolam but IMHO we need answers...atleast I'd like to.. Eka Pathni Vradhan etc!..meant for the common man I feel. And thanks for Blogrolling me.
TLB, I feel the same way as you. Abot the stories around our Gods.!
Manoj, Please do let me know. I am very interested in reading.
Lord Rama never became a tyrant. Rama had two sons Lav and Kush. After Rama's death, Lav and Kush(also I think) ruled India (Bharat). Lav founded the city named Lahore (present Pakistan ). Lahore was named after King Lav who is believed to have ruled Lahore in ancient times, the town of Kasur to the south was named after his twin brother Kush. A temple of Lav can still be found in the Lahore fort which however is closed.
This was the story behind the Lakshman's death sentence. Mr. Narayanan .. Kindly read it again !
" One day, Shri Rama was having a dialogue with Kaal(the lord of Death). It was his order then that the intruder would be given the death sentence. So he appointed Lakshman to guard the gates. At the same time, meanwhile sage Durvasa also arrived there and began insisting to meet Rama at once. But when he felt that he was being delayed in his purpose, the sage threatened to destroy the whole clan by his curse. So Lakshman went inside the hut and informed Rama about Durvasa's arrival. Lord Rama welcomed and offered his respects to Durvasa. But when Durvasa turned his back and began to leave the hut, Rama grew sad. As per the resolution, Lakshman was given the death sentence. Lakshman knew it well, so in order to save his brother from embarrassment and sorrow, Lakshman himself demanded the death sentence for him and accepted the separation from his Lord. Thus, Lakshman served his Lord Shri Rama life long and accepted a separation from him at last. "
